West Kilbride

West Kilbride Community Centre

The West Kilbride Community Centre comprises a pair of linked red sandstone buildings constructed in the 1890’s by Coates of Paisley to serve as a convalescent home for its thread mill workers. It continued in this role until the 1970’s when there was no longer a viable use for it by Coates. They gifted it to Ayr County Council with the condition that it was used for the benefit on the community of West Kilbride and Seamill. This situation endured with successive changes in local government through Strathclyde Region and latterly North Ayrshire Council.
